SC Bastia 1997 - 98 Retro Football Shirt

Many a fan will fondly remember Ousmane Soumah's goal against Halmstads: The forward scored a dramatic diving header in extra time that saw Sporting Club de Bastia crown their superb Intertoto Cup run with the championship and a return to the UEFA Cup in that same 1997 - 98 season for yet another continental adventure.

20 years after reaching the UEFA Cup finals in 1978, having made their way through some of Europe's finest, a feat that would instil European football as a part of the club's identity, it was Pierre-Yves Andre kicking off this latest UEFA Cup campaign in style by scoring the decisive and only goal over two legs versus Benfica. Unfortunately, the Corsicans' hopes and dreams of another fairytale cup run were ended with Steaua Bucharest, against all odds, beating Bastia on away goals.

However bitter the defeat coach Frederic Antonetti and his teams were able to re-ignite the fire of Europa Cup football in the hearts of all Turchini, who are to this day still patiently awaiting their next chance to shine in Europe.
