The upcoming 1979/80 season appeared a demanding one for Servette Geneva coming on the back of the miraculous campaign the year before when the club won every domestic competition it entered.
And Servette came very close to retaining its title this year. Under the management of former player Péter Pázmándy the club topped its Nationalliga group, however four defeats from five away games in the play-off round hit hopes and brought a third-placed overall finish.
This would also be the last season at the club for two prolific scorers and Servette legends - winger Umberto Barberis and international midfielder Claude 'Didi' Andrey.
